Edinburgh and Lothians Structure Plan 2015
Approved Plan
The Edinburgh and Lothians Structure Plan was approved on 17th June 2004 by Scottish Ministers (view decision letter doc, 1MB, and modifications doc, 50kb), following consultation with local people and interested parties. The Plan consists of a Written Statement accompanied by a Key Diagram. The Plan, the first to be prepared jointly by the four Lothian Councils (City of Edinburgh Council, East Lothian Council, Midlothian Council and West Lothian Council), provides a long term planning vision for development and the environment in Edinburgh and the Lothians until the year 2015. It repeals and replaces the Lothian Structure Plan 1994.
In accordance with planning legislation the plan comprises:
- a Written Statement incorporating a Key Diagram
- a Publicity and Consultation Statement which sets out which steps were taken to publicise the draft structure plan and the Councils' responses to the comments received.
In addition three other documents which are relevant to this Plan formed part of the Councils' submission to Ministers. These are:
- a Supporting Statement which contains background information on which the plan is based
- an Urban Housing Capacity Study to determine the capacity of the City to absorb new housing development on brownfield land
- an Action Plan which sets out the actions required to implement the structure plan, including the provision of major items of infrastructure.
